Guidelines for Letters of Intent

The Eco-Ethics International Union is a not-for-profit nongovernmental organization whose mission comprises investigating, promoting, and maintaining a sustainable balance between ecosystem health and human needs. The EEIU will enable researchers and affiliates to interact at multiple levels around the globe to inform and motivate decision makers, the general public, and the media about the concepts and theses of eco-ethics. Members of the EEIU may participate in the development of these endeavors through local components. Local components fall into three categories: Chapters, Youth Groups and Task Forces (definitions). Individuals interested in forming a local component are invited to consider the Guidelines for Establishing a Local Chapter and to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI).

LOIs must contain, at a minimum, the items listed below. The overall length of the LOI should not exceed ten pages including supporting documentation, while the length of the scope of proposed activities should not exceed five pages.

  1. MAL Unit title and acronym, specification of proposal for Chapter, Task Force or Youth Group.
  2. Name and contact information for MAL Unit spokesperson and two additional founding members (name, title, affiliation, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address).
  3. A scope of activities with a description of the proposed program elements.
  4. Description of the purpose and basis for forming a new local component. Describe the unique expertise, contributions, or resources of current team members.

In addition to the information outlined above LOIs should include an explanation of how the proposed local component would complement the overall vision and endeavors of EEIU.

After a MAL Unit has met all requirements for at least 12 months and has provided supporting documentation of the same it may apply to EEIU HQ to be recognized as a new local component. Evaluations will be based on the unique capabilities of the proposed component and its officers and the need for and quality of the proposed program. Proposals will be evaluated by an expert review panel under the auspices of the EEIU leadership.

LOIs should be submitted to:
