EEIU Shimoga Reports & Letters

Home, EEIU Shimoga

Letter, 10 July 2003

From: Neerchal Balakrishnaraj, Chair, EEIU Shimoga
To: Mary Batson, EEIU Coordinator, Headquarters, Germany

Dear Mary Batson,

I am sorry for the delay in establishing the EEIU Shimoga Chapter. It took some time to find suitable people for the local Chapter. However, I am happy to inform you that a preliminary meeting was held on establishing the local Chapter. A second meeting will be held on the 11th at Indian 15:00 hours to formally establish the EEIU. I am thinking about staying back as founder/facilitator, rather than as Chair of the Shimoga Chapter. Moreover, there is a proposal to name the local Chapter 'Sadajeevitha EEIU, Germany (Shimoga Chapter)'. Sadajeevitha is from the Kannada language, and means 'ever living'. I shall look forward to the opinion of the EEIU President. Please convey your approval whether we could keep this name for the local Chapter. An action plan will be prepared in this meeting and will be communicated to you shortly.

Regards,

Neerchal Balakrishnaraj

Response, 14 July 2003

Dear Mr. Balakrishnaraj,

Many thanks for your email, it is good to hear that the Shimoga Chapter is progressing in its activities! It is truly wonderful news to hear that the preliminary meeting was held. And how was the meeting of the 11th? If you do wish to step down as Chair, (if I understand your email correctly); and have another individual selected, please let us know and Prof. Kinne will officially appoint the new Chair. When the Chapter has grown and has enough members, of course, it is recommended that a Chapter conduct elections for future appointments and officers.

Concerning your Chapter name, EEIU policy does require the use of a locale in Chapter titles, to prevent confusion and also to assist in recognition and location by all EEIU Members. Accordingly, while it would not be harmonious with the policy to name the chapter ONLY as 'Sadajeevitha EEIU', it would be acceptable to include the term at the end of the local title, as: EEIU Shimoga (India) "Sadajeevitha". Would this be agreeable? The "ever living" is quite a nice addition, and hopefully a sign of the success and longevity of the Chapter!

As you may have noticed, not all Chapters names have been previously created in accordance with this policy. However, in recent times this has led to much confusion in various areas for our members, which we hope to offset by these adaptions. Accordingly, we are in the process of working with these Chapters to bring these titles into compliance with EEIU policy.

I look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best in your continued endeavors.

Sincerely,

Mary Batson
