Chapter in Brief

THE PROGRAM OF EEIU PRIDNEPROVYE CHAPTER

The ethical doctrine about human morals has been developed over long stretches of mankind's history. In the last decades global and regional ecological problems presented an instant necessity of creating a special aspect of ethics: ecological ethics, or eco-ethics. The need of eco-ethics can be described by the term "deontology" (from "deon" — necessity, debt and "logos" — doctrine), offered by the English philosopher Bentamon (1748-1832) and used in the field of medical ethics by the well-known Russian psychiatrist, AE Ushakov. The authority of the term is doubtless in line with eco-ethics, as this concept means "science about the debt, intellectual duty, professional ethics... Deontology is especially relevant in sections of professional work, which address interhuman relationships and accountable interplays" (Lakosina IA, Ushakov AE, Medical psychology- M.:Medicine, 1984, N72). Rephrasing those words, but already with reference to the concept of eco-ethics, we should add that the ecological deontology uncovers features of the debt of people to nature, and also our intellectual duty to society for guards of health of the biosphere and mankind, for the most effective operations concerning the solution of ecological problems which have arisen due to faults of mankind. THE NOOSPHERE - Additional details

Noosphere: Greek - 'reason'

This notion was realistically developed by Vladimir I. Vernadsky in 1944 in his article: 'A few words on the noosphere' (Uspekhi Sovremennoy Biologii, Vol. XVIII, issue 2, pp.113-120). Being accepted by the established V. I. Vernadsky biogeochemical base of the biosphere as the initial position, E. le Roy (L'exigence idealiste et le fait d'evolution. P., 1927, p. 196) introduced a term 'noosphere' as the modern geological stage of the biosphere.

V.I. Vernadsky (1944) wrote in his work:
(a) 'The noosphere is the new geological phenomenon on our planet'.
(b) 'Now we are experiencing the new geological evolutional change of the bioshere. We are entering the noosphere. We are going in it — into a new natural process — in the terrible time, in the epoch of the destroying World War'.
(c) 'Noosphere is the last state after many states of the biosphere evolution in geological time: the state of our days'.

Vernadsky's main idea:
Humanity should use human reason in non-destructive interactions with the biosphere; this geological stage is called the noosphere, which is in harmony with the ideas of modern eco-ethics.
