From: Romeo D. Caturao, Chair EEIU Philippines, Tigbauan, Iloilo
To: Mary Batson, EEIU Coordinator, Headquarters, Germany
Dear Madam:
Greetings from the Philippines. I hope you can still remember me. I am
Mr. Romeo D. Caturao, one of the first Filipino members of the Eco-Ethics
International Union.
I would like to report to you that in March of this year, I again conducted a seminar on eco-ethics, particularly on waste management aspects, at St Therese-MTC College. This college offers a Bachelor of Science in marine and nautical studies. The seminar is a one-day activity attended by all staff and faculty of the college.
Next week I will be in different regions of the country conducting seminars
(at different universities) on eco-ethics with particular
focus on waste management, coastal resource management and red tides. All
these topics I link with eco-ethics.
It is in our schedule next year to have a national conference on
eco-ethics attended by different sectors of the country if we can
locate funding regarding this matter. Also, if I can ask all the
universities that I have conducted seminars for to form an organization about
this and confederate it throughout the nation, so much the better. We can
act nationally on whatever activities we have regarding this
organization. That means, this will be called Eco-Ethics Philippines. Or
whatever name depending upon the consultative decision of the national
conference.
I and my colleagues are formulating a study on factors influencing waste
management practices of the coastal households in the Philippines. We will
be submitting this study to local funding institutions or NGOs so that we can conduct this in September 2003.
Further, my friends and I are also formulating a project study for an
eco-tourism project. This again I hope will be materialized through the
help of my colleagues and other environmentalist friends.
Finally, since I am one of the first Filipinos who became a member of the Union,
I would like to accept that I will be provided a website so I can report
all my activities for the Union.
I will be updating you always with any activities of the Chapter.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Sincerely yours,
Romeo D. Caturao

To: Nicola Barnfather, EEIU Coordinator, Headquarters, Germany
Dear Madam Barnfather:
Greetings from the Philippines. As a member of the Eco-Ethics International Union, I
am pleased to inform you that I have done some activities last year (2001):
1. Conducted a Symposium on the "Importance of Eco-Ethics" at the University
of Iloilo, Iloilo City, Philippines, August 4, 2001. This was attended
by all graduate students, faculty and staff of the University.
In attendance were 800 students. My talk focused on Eco-Ethics: Concepts and
Theses. We are in the process of organizing an Eco-Ethics organization in
the University. Officers of such an organization will be sent by me later.
2. Resource speaker on Eco-Ethics for Eco-Populi Organization of St. Paul
College at the Instructional Media Center of St Paul College of Iloilo,
September 13, 2001. This was attended by all nursing students of said
school. They have organized an eco-ethics organization and we are planning to
meet again this coming March for the finalization.
3. Resource Speaker on Science and Math Club Day with the theme "Preserving the Environment through Eco-Ethics", September 25 at the
Passi Trade School, Passi City, Iloilo, Philippines. This was attended by
all college students of the school. They also organized a club on
eco-ethics, and we will be meeting this coming April for other projects.
I hope to conduct other seminars on eco-ethics at other universities in the
coming months. I will keep you posted on our local activities here in the
Philippines.
My best regards to everybody.
Sincerely yours,
Romeo D. Caturao
