Chapter in Brief:

EEIU Pakistan / Layyah ECO Club is an active group of college and university teachers who are already working on eco-ethical issues in their professional/teachers forum. Chair Prof. Mirani, with the Post Graduate College Layyah, intends to incorporate further the concepts and theses of eco-ethics in their activities and projects.


CONSTITUTION OF EEIU PAKISTAN / LAYYAH ECO CLUB

NAME

The organization shall be known as Layyah ECO Club. The ECO acronym means 'Environmental Concerns Organization'.

PHILOSOPHY/PURPOSE

The club shall be an environmental and outdoor activities club. Its emphasis lies in ecological and environmental awareness and in a deep appreciation of the vast and diverse forms of life in our world. The purpose of the club is to promote, encourage and exchange ideas and information, and to develop positive environmental activities focusing on local, regional, and national issues.

LOCATION

The office will be located in Layyah at 36. Offices Housing Colony Layyah, Punjab, Pakistan.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all interested in environmentally concerned activities regardless of sex, race, colour, religion or political affiliation. All members will apply with a standard club membership form. The amount of subscription shall be Rs.50/- per annum. If, in the opinion of the Council, any member is guilty of conduct contravening the objects and the interests of the club, the Council may suspend or terminate her/his membership.

COUNCIL

The business and the affairs of the club shall be managed by the Council. The Council shall comprise the members not less than five (5) and not more than (21), as may be determined by the outgoing Council. The Council shall be elected for two years in a general body meeting of the club. The Council may elect one Chair, one Vice-Chair, one Secretary General and one Treasurer. Council meetings shall be held at least twice a year.

OFFICERS

The office of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary General and Treasurer will be elected by a majority vote of the Council members. The duties of the offices will vary, moreover the Chair will be responsible for general business matters of the club (including the financial matters), while the Secretary General will coordinate club activities. The Treasurer will keep all records of the incomes and expenditures of the club. All Officers are responsible for keeping the club running smoothly and effectively.

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES

Major activities in 2003 will be preparing the required literature for the need of a wildlife park in Choubara, District Layyah. The club will also initiate a campaign on environmental awareness among the people regarding (a) deforestation by the agriculturist and (b) hazards of local coal-making from local wood.

FINANCIAL PLAN

Fundraising events will be held by contacting suitable donor agencies.

AUDIT

The annual audit report will be approved by the general body. Club accounts shall be examined by an accountant appointed by the annual general meeting.

AMENDMENT

The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the total members of the Council.
