Reports & Letters, EEIU Nigeria/Mushin

Chapter in Brief:

Our mission statement
EEIU Nigeria/Mushin is a non-profit research and educational organisation formed to promote strong communities, healthy local economies, environmental sustainability and eco-ethics and environmental awareness.

EEIU Nigeria/Mushin's founding activities are intended to include the following:

  1. Registration with the corporate affairs commission
  2. Membership drive across nation
  3. Development of eco-ethics handout/leaflets/flyers/letterhead
  4. Communicating the programmes, projects and ideas of EEIU for governmental and non-governmental sponsorship
  5. Public awareness and advocacy on eco-ethic principles, through media
  6. Launching of Chapter and capacity building on waste management (disposal, collection, transportation, land filling, recycling, etc.)
  7. Teaching environmental ethics in primary, secondary and tertiary schools
Projects

  1. Oshodi Market and Motor Park is a slum-like area located in Lagos. It is poorly laid out and one can see heaps of dirt everywhere within the market. All other markets and parks in Nigeria share this ugly look. We hope to transform the market and park into an architectural masterpiece and beautify the environment and put in place a waste management plan, starting with Oshodi Market and proceeding to others in the nation.
  2. To change the habit of Nigerians indiscriminately throwing away and burning wastes by teaching environmental ethics in schools
  3. Statistical survey of environment pollutants/polluters
  4. Environment newspaper
  5. 30 minute/1 hour radio and television programmes on environment to be aired on local stations
  6. Advise the ministry of environment to enforce catalytic oxidizers in cars

More will unfold and we look forward for sponsorship of these projects from government, corporate, multinationals and United Nations agencies and other organizations. I look forward to your suggestions on sponsorship and your criticism.

Yours sincerely,

Adetona Taiwo Adewale
Chair, EEIU Nigeria/Mushin
