Chapter in Brief:
ECO-ETHICS IN NAIROBI!
In cooperation with Chair Douglas Arege, the Eco-Ethics International Union has established a Local Component in Nairobi. This Chapter was made possible through e-mail/Internet communication between Mr. Arege and the international coordinator Mary Batson, who has been helpful and quite supportive, working to ensure success through encouraging e-mails and encouragement to the Chair. Excited at this opportunity, Mr. Arege sought to share the idea with university students at Nairobi University where he studies. Within the first month 27 individuals have expressed interest.
EEIU Nairobi seeks to sensitize fellow youth and the nation in general on eco-ethics. Plans are underway to carry out massive membership recruitment, which will then set the pace for an eco-ethics agenda in Nairobi. Networking with the international office and long-established Chapters will greatly help in shaping our Chapter. Already the great support coming from Headquarters is appreciated.
Mr. Arege, a staunch environmental activist, says that the ecosystem is taking a worrisome trend and it is high time the youth stood up to take measures to curb the ecosystem's alarming rate of deterioration. He is optimistic that youth worldwide will take center stage in addressing these issues that will affect their future and cautions that society should embrace development models that do not exacerbate already fragile conditions.
