EEIU Nabuur has six key programme areas:
- Community Outreach
- Awareness Creation & Information Sharing
- Ecotourism
- Research & Consultancy
- Radioecology
- Paranormal Investigations.
Below is more information on some of these programmes:
Research & Consultancy programme
EEIU Nabuur undertakes research on eco-ethics and sustainable development, best practices, policy development, planning and management. It also carries out social evaluation of programmes and review of Environmental Impact Assessment reports.
Community Outreach programme
EEIU Nabuur reaches out to local communities with the aim of sensitizing them on the importance of ethics in ecological practices. This is done through community mobilization and participatory trainings which may entail dialogue (barazas), focus group discussions, simulations and exposure visits. The project also involves promoting local community/private sector mentorship, whereby private sector operators offer short-term placements for community representatives in an effort to improve their capacities. EEIU Nabuur also offers communities assistance and advice in project conceptualization and planning, proposal writing, project implementation and evaluation.
Radioecology program
EEIU Nabuur studies how radioactive substances interact with nature; how different mechanisms affect the substances' migration and uptake in food chain and ecosystems. Investigations in radioecology might include aspects of field sampling, designed field and laboratory experiments and the development of predictive simulation models. This science combines techniques from some of the more basic, traditional fields, such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, and ecology, with applied concepts in radiation protection. Radioecological studies form the basis for estimating doses and assessing the consequences of radioactive pollution for human health and the environment. We do this in Kisii Center.
