EEIU Kherson Reports & Letters
Home Page, EEIU Kherson
Letter, April 6, 2003
From: Olga Ponomar, Chair EEIU Kherson, Ukraine
To: Mary Batson, EEIU Coordinator, Headquarters, Germany
Dear Ms. Batson,
I am grateful to you and Prof. Kinne for your attention and care.
Now my first report as Chair of the Kherson Chapter. On Friday, April 4th, I held the regional conference on problems of preservation and revival of the oldest city park in Kherson, "The Government Garden", which is a unique arboretum with a specific microclimate. Together with members of the Association of Young Researchers of Social and Practical Ecology, we tried to attract the attention of both the Kherson region and city authorities to the park's urgent problems. The park was and could be now a place of relaxation and rest for dozens of citizens and their children. Certainly, we need money to keep watch over the garden, buy new plants and employ professional gardeners, because my children and I cannot do such a large project ourselves. As a result of the meeting, one participant promised to present 1 000 saplings of different plants to the park. This will be great - but it is not enough.
In May I will present the idea of organising a public organisation for children at a regional seminar on "Forming a Future Leader". Superintendents from 21 districts in the Kherson region will be attending, and I would like to introduce them to the EEIU, its ideas and principles. Representatives of the Kherson Board of Education and City Methodological and Scientific Center will also be present.
Yours sincerely,
Olga Ponomar
