Areas of Emphasis

EEIU Ghana works through participatory processes to make a positive impact on individual and community development through the following activities:

  • Environmental Ethics Education & Advocacy
  • Improving educational opportunities and facilities in its operational areas
  • Building local capacity for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM)
  • Community-based family planning & Reproductive Health programmes
  • Enhancing policy dialogue & formulation on Environmental ethics
  • Skill Development initiatives for Alternative Livelihoods
  • Conducting Environmental Research & Assessments

Challenges

  • Enhancing sustainable livelihoods that fall short of natural resource exploitation
  • Improving upon motivation and morale through local capacity-building
  • Catalysing social change to promote women's role in community development

Ongoing Activities

  • Membership drive in four of the ten Regions of Ghana (Eastern, Volta, Central & Greater Accra)
  • Development of Eco-Ethics handouts/leaflets
  • Publicity & Advocacy on Eco-Ethics Principles:
    • Decision-makers
    • Civil Society & Media

Forthcoming Activities & Projects

  • Launching of EEIU Ghana Chapter & Capacity-building workshop on Environmental Ethics
  • Researching aspects of coastal problems for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in the Central Region of Ghana
  • Translation of EEIU Brochure (English version) into a Ghanaian language
  • Development of an Environmental Ethics Documentary: Livelihoods and coping mechanisms that influence resource-use conflicts & exploitation in coastal communities
