Report, September 2001

On 20 September 2001, the members of the EEIU Brazil Chapter had their first meeting, and several points have been raised regarding issues which need to be addressed.

Objective: Eco-Ethics and its Aims. Discussion of the intentions of EEIU Brazil

Issues of the reunion and persons responsible:
EEIU Brazil: Presentation (Adir Janete)
Eco-ethics concepts and theses (Adir Janete)
EEIU Brazil: Necessity of legalization in Brazil (L. Haro)
General issues (Adir Janete)

The following list includes matters raised at the meeting and persons responsible for each item:

1. Concepts of Eco-Ethics and EEIU Brazil

1.1 The differences between eco-ethics and historical ethics were explained. Presentation of the concepts of eco-ethics and discussion of the most recent paper: ECO-ETHICS further developed text 01.05.2001, Inter-Research, May 1, 2001 (Adir Janete)

1.2 We concluded that it is necessary for the Brazilian Chapter to translate the EEIU brochure 'Humanity can survive only with a new concept of ethics: eco-ethics' (Inter-Research, May 1, 2001) into Portuguese (all persons)

1.3 It was agreed that Adir Janete and L. Haro would undertake the translation into Portuguese, to be completed by November 30, 2001 (Adir Janete/L. Haro)

1.4 It is necessary to form a study group on the concepts and theses of eco-ethics, as a further instrument. We attempt to take eco-ethics to the schools (elementary, secondary, university and post-graduate levels) and general public (local community). The involvement of capable members and participants is indispensable to allow the proposed aims to be fulfilled (all persons)

1.5 Our views will bolster our efforts to divulge information and assist in forging a new mentality for humanity. The manner of teaching, marketing, and divulgence will be defined in the next reunion (all persons)

1.6 There is an urgent necessity to legally formalize the activities of the EEIU Brazil Chapter and to formalize its structure. Is it possible to carry out our activities as a filial of the EEIU or is it necessary to form a new organization, which acts in accordance with Brazilian laws? How is it possible to become a Fellow of EEIU?* (L. Haro)

1.7 The Department of Finance and Commerce of Brazil and the EEIU Headquarters should be addressed regarding the legality of activities of the EEIU Brazil Chapter (Adir Janete)

2 General Issues

2.1 It is necessary to establish a place of reunion and a permanent location for the EEIU Brazil Chapter (all persons)

2.2 Information on the legal method for private Brazilian companies to offer financial support to the EEIU Brazil Chapter is required, i.e. should support be offered to EEIU Chapter Brazil or EEIU Headquarters?**(all persons)

Comments of the EEIU President

*EEIU Chapters are a local component of the Union. They operate under local law. Should it deviate from the law under which EEIU Headquarters operate (German law; see 'Constitution of Eco-Ethics International Union') the local law has priority. EEIU Fellows are distinguished supporters and representatives of the Union. They are nominated by Fellows and/or Members, and formally appointed by the President or Vice President

**Donations are a matter for local EEIU components to apply for, to use, and to account for. Headquarters supports donations and assists local components without own financial interests.
