EEIU BHOPAL CHAPTER
2006 ANNUAL REPORT

The Bhopal Chapter of the EEIU has registered membership growth this year. The number of members has gone up to 176 including one school based Youth Group. The Chapter organized the following activities:

On 7 February 2006 a lecture on the Role of Forensic Science on Crime Detection by Dr. D. K. Satpathy, Director of Medicolegal Institute, Bhopal, on was organized at Career College, Bhopal. This lecture was attended by over 200 students and faculty members.

On 28 February 2006 National Science Day was celebrated at Government Sarojini Naidu Girls Postgraduate College, Bhopal. The focal theme for this event was Nurture Nature for Future. This programme was attended by over 200 persons, including students and faculty. The students organized a poster exhibition. Professor P. S. Dubey, Chairman, M. P. State Pollution Control Board, and Professor Santosh Kumar, Former Vice Chancellor of Sagar University, delivered learned speeches on this occasion.

A Workshop on Water Conservation was organized on 22 April 2006 for the students and teachers of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Bhopal. A working model for Roof Top Harvesting was also demonstrated. Mr. Pradeep Vyas of Bhaskar Group of Newspapers, Mr. Brijesh Namdeo, an expert on roof top water harvesting, and Dr. S. K. Kulshrestha, Chair, EEIU Bhopal Chapter, delivered lectures. About 500 students and 100 teachers attended this workshop.

On 12 October 2006 an Intercollegiate Paper Presentation competition on Environmental Protection: A Global Challenge, was organized at Satya Sai Girls College, Bhopal. Seventeen students from seven institutions participated. First, second and consolation prizes were awarded. Dr. Pramila Maini, Director, Institute of Excellence, was chief guest and Dr. V. S. Singh, Principal, Career College, was guest of honour. Over 200 students and faculty attended this event.

Three activities including a science exhibition, quiz competition and a series of lectures on Planet Earth, have been scheduled for December 2006.

The EEIU Bhopal Chapter has been able to spread the message of eco-ethics through newspapers and functions organized during the year.
