Reports, EEIU Bamenda

Chapter in Brief:

EEIU Bamenda aims at sensitising the local population about the negative impact of human activities. In Bamenda in particular and the North West Province in general the habit of burning bushes before cultivation is a common habit. Farmers ignore the effects on the natural environment. The sewage disposal scheme is also not very effective, as you will find mounts of wastes along the streets.

In the surrounding villages and towns poaching is still common. Protected species are hunted down by villagers for food and money. Thus we have taken the initiative to sensitise the masses on the effects of our activities on the environment — how they can live and let others live.

EEIU Bamenda is already running with a membership of 30 which comprises people from all walks of life. Just within this short period, it is clear that in no distant future the number will increase drastically. We use the media (news print, radio, and especially the Internet) to spread our message. We have an Internet group that diffuses news to members via email and a website is under construction and will soon be operational.

The group is now soliciting financial and material support for the startup of its office and the running of its demanding activities.
